There are formal diversion programs and informal diversion programs also known as “prosecutor’s diversion.” Formal diversion programs are available throughout Los Angeles and Ventura County. Informal diversion programs are more common in Los Angeles and not offered in Ventura County.

If you are charged with certain drug use or possession you may be eligible for diversion. Diversion requires that you attend classes and obey all laws for 18 months. If successful your case will be dismissed. An informal diversion can be negotiated for almost any type of crime so long as the prosecutor and judge agree to allow it.
